Smoke Detector Facts

According to Fact Sheet Prepared by Red Cross:
"An estimated 890 lives could be saved each year if all homes had working smoke alarms.
Sixty-five percent of reported home fire deaths in 2004 occurred in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.
Sprinklers and smoke alarms together cut your risk of dying in a home fire 82% in relation to having neither.
Only 26 percent of families have actually developed and practiced a home fire escape plan."

 According to a report on CBC.ca

"An estimated 414 Canadians died of carbon monoxide poisoning between 2000 and 2007, according to statistics provided by provincial coroners and compiled by The Canadian Press. Hundreds more are treated each year for exposure to the colourless, odourless gas."

"Employee theft was regarded as the greatest shrinkage problem in North and Latin America, according to retailers. Thirty-five percent of shrinkage was attributed to employee theft-an increase from 2010. And shrink, or unaccounted for merchandise in a store's inventory, is higher worldwide accodring to the Centre for Retail Researcher's Global Retail Theft Barometer for 2011 (GRTB 2011)"
